Authorities arrested a man Thursday morning in Baton Rouge on a count of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting Wednesday of a 29-year-old man in Tickfaw.
William Brown III was arrested on a murder warrant in the shooting that occurred during what was supposed to be a drug sale, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards said Thursday.
Brown shot the victim several times and took the $1,100 that the victim was carrying to make a large purchase of marijuana from Brown, Edwards said.
Edwards said Brown was arrested without incident early Thursday morning with the help of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office homicide unit and SWAT team.
Brown, 28, of 49474 Whiskey Lane in Tickfaw, was being held in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison late Thursday for Tangipahoa Parish authorities.
Edwards identified the slain man as Travola Brown, 29, of Ponchatoula.
Edwards said he doesn’t believe the two men are related.
Several people saw the two men together Wednesday or witnessed the shooting, Edwards said.
The sheriff said a gun confiscated when William Brown III was arrested has been sent to the State Police Crime Laboratory for examination.
The shooting occurred at Landry Lane and Tin Can Alley in Tickfaw around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe the shooting happened after William Brown III drove the victim to Tickfaw to make the drug transaction, according to the release.
