Update: Prosecutors declined in February 2015 to file charges against Caroline and Frank Mons, said Autumn Payton, spokeswoman for the 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office.

The principal of a private school in Denham Springs and his wife were arrested Friday for bringing a gun on campus, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Frank Mons, 46, Linda Lee Drive, Denham Springs, admitted putting an unloaded Springfield XD 9 mm handgun in his desk at Amite Christian Academy, La. 1019 and Amite Church Road, on or around Dec. 15, according to the arrest warrant.

School officials saw his wife, Caroline Mons, 47, carrying the same model gun on school property the following day, her arrest warrant states.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Steele said the incident was reported Tuesday. The two were arrested Friday, and each posted $25,000 bond the same day.

Each faces a single count of carrying a firearm on school property. Steele said deputies were still investigating.

Amite Christian Academy operates a day care, preschool and school for children from kindergarten through sixth grade, according to its website.

On Friday, Frank Mons was not listed among the school’s faculty and staff on the website.

The school did not return messages seeking comment Friday afternoon.
