PORT VINCENT — Police are searching for a man who ran over a woman with his car in a Popeyes restaurant parking lot after stealing her purse, Police Chief Norris Hull said Wednesday.

The suspect escaped in an “old green Cadillac,” Hull said.

The driver’s nickname is “Red,” but police do not know his real name, Hull said.

The victim was taken by helicopter to Baton Rouge General Hospital Mid-City, Hull said.

The hospital could confirm only that the victim was in the emergency room, a spokeswoman said.

The attack happened about 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen in Port Vincent, Hull said.

Several witnesses gave sworn statements about the incident, Hull said.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Hull said.
