A Denham Springs man has been arrested on counts of theft, forgery and residential contractor fraud, the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office reported Thursday.
James Howard Brewer, 46, owner of Brewer Construction Group LLC, is accused of taking a down payment of approximately $3,300 and failing to perform the promised work, the news release says. He was arrested Tuesday.
In a February contract, he agreed to supply plans, labor, equipment and materials for a project but delivered only on the plans. Moreover, when the victim contacted the engineering company listed on the plans, a representative there said the company didn’t work for Brewer or sign off on his documents, the release states.
Investigators found out Brewer didn’t become a licensed construction contractor until August, several months after the deal was signed.
If convicted, he could face up to 10 years on each of the counts against him.
