A 21-year-old bicyclist from Hammond was killed on Christmas Day after he was struck by a vehicle in Livingston Parish, State Police said.

Justin Murray was riding his bike westbound on La. 42 west of La. 43 shortly before 5 p.m. Friday when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the westbound lane into the path of Keith Jones, 63, who also was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado westbound, State Police said in a news release.

Murray was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered serious injuries, the release says. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Jones, of Livingston, was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said, adding that Jones submitted to a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment.

A toxicology sample will be taken from Murray for analysis.
