Driver impairment is suspected in a wreck Friday morning on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish that resulted in the death of an Amite man, Louisiana State Police reported.
Troopers investigated a single-car crash about three miles north of the Independence exit on I-55 just after 7 a.m., Trooper Nick Manale said in a press release.
Letcher Winston, 21, of Amite, was driving north when his small pickup truck drifted off the road to the left, Manale said.
Winston overcorrected to the right, his truck crossed both northbound traffic lanes before rolling several times and hitting a tree on the east side of I-55, Manale said.
Winston was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, Manale said.
Drug impairment is a suspected factor and toxicology tests are pending with the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory, Manale said.
