A Denham Springs man was arrested Saturday for the Friday hit and run that injured a teenager, according to a State Police news release.

State Police say Andrew J. Williams, 34, was texting when he hit Justin Beck, 17, as Beck walked his bicycle along the shoulder of La. 16 near Wildwood Road in Watson, said Trooper 1st Class Russell Graham, State Police spokesman, in the release.

Williams had also crashed into a car in the parking lot of a bar Friday night and fled the scene, Graham said.

Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies investigating that crash worked together with troopers to identify Williams as the suspect in both hit and runs, Graham said.

Williams was arrested at his parent’s home in Denham Springs, Graham said.

Williams’ 2002 GMC pickup truck had damage consistent with the accidents, and Williams admitted to the crashes, Graham said.

Williams was booked into Livingston Parish Prison on two counts of hit and run, and one count each of negligent injuring, reckless operation and texting while driving.

Beck has been release from the hospital and is recovering at home, the release says.
