A motorcyclist was killed when he ran off the road shortly after 6 p.m. Friday on La. 22, east of La. 16 in Livingston Parish, according to State Police.

James B. Geter, 46, of Maurepas, was riding a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on La. 22 when he ran off the roadway to the left as he was approaching a curve, went through a fence and came to rest in a field, said Trooper 1st Class Jared L. Sandifer, a spokesman for State Police.

Geter, who was wearing a helmet, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to North Oaks Hospital in Livingston where he died, Sandifer said in a news release.

It was unknown late Friday if Geter was impaired. However, a toxicology sample was taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.
