Having lost the election for 20th Judicial District Division A judge by a mere 13 votes, Sydney Picou Walker said Tuesday she will not challenge the results.

“After a review of the election records, my family and I have given much consideration as to whether to further contest the election and have concluded that it is in the best interest of the citizens of East and West Feliciana Parish not to do so,” Picou Walker said.

“I have met with Betsy Jones to congratulate her on her victory.”

The two attorneys, both Democrats, were competing for the seat held by Judge George “Hal” Ware Jr., who did not seek re-election.

Jones, a political newcomer, lives in East Feliciana, while Picou Walker, a former police juror, lives in West Feliciana.

Jones got 6,299 votes in the Nov. 4 election to Picou Walker’s 6,286, according to the Secretary of State’s website. Voter turnout in the district was 58.9 percent.
