Authorities are searching for an escapee from the St. Tammany Parish work release program who allegedly abducted a woman from her Covington-area workplace Thursday morning.

Christopher Ricker, 35, held the woman against her will and drove her to Tangipahoa Parish before putting her out of his 1999 blue Toyota Camry on Wardline Road in Hammond, said Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto.

The woman called the Sheriff’s Office around 8:30 a.m. to report the abduction.

Deputies were able to locate Ricker traveling on La. 442 in Loranger, Panepinto said.

After a short pursuit, Ricker crashed his vehicle into a tree near Cherokee Beach and jumped into the river.

Ricker was then seen headed east on foot.

Sheriff’s deputies have the area surrounded and dogs on the ground searching, Panepinto said.

Anyone with information about Ricker can call 911.
