A Walker man has been arrested and accused of stealing more than $200,000 worth of timber from landowners in St. James Parish, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry reported Friday.

Stephen Ray Foust, 43, and his company, S&G Forestry LLC, were contracted to harvest timber from a large piece of property but did not compensate the owners for 139 loads harvested between December 2013 and June 2014, the LDAF wrote in a news release.

The Department valued the stolen timber at $236,613.97.

Forestry officials conducted a four-month investigation and arrested Foust on Wednesday on one count of theft of over $25,000. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
