HAMMOND — Fire Chief Paul Collura will step down Sept. 30 after more than 41 years of service with the Hammond Fire Department, Mayor Mayson Foster announced Wednesday.

Collura submitted his resignation letter Wednesday morning, Foster said.

Foster will ask the Civil Service Board to meet as soon as possible to organize a test for fire chief, he said.

If the position is not filled by Sept. 30, the city could appoint an interim fire chief, Foster said in the release.
