HAMMOND — Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies are investigating two unrelated shootings Tuesday: the death of a 19-year-old Ponchatoula man and a separate shooting injury, both apparently in the Rufus Bankston Road area.
Gerrell Lee, 19, of Ponchatoula, was a passenger in a car Tuesday sometime before 9:30 a.m. when “the driver said he heard a big ‘pow’ and realized his passenger had been shot,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said Tuesday night.
Lee’s body was in the car, at Rufus Bankston and University Avenue, when deputies arrived, but it’s not been confirmed if that’s where the shooting happened, Panepinto said.
In a separate incident earlier Tuesday, a man checked into North Oaks Medical Center about 4:30 a.m. with gunshot wounds to the leg, Panepinto said.
“The incident allegedly occurred as the result of an altercation over a dice game” at an apartment complex on Rufus Bankston, Panepinto said.
