DENHAM SPRINGS — Authorities have identified the man that a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy shot Saturday after the man shot at the deputy, Livingston Parish Sheriff Chief Deputy Jason Ard said Sunday.

The man is Gerald Clausen, 38, Denham Springs, Ard said.

The deputy, who was not identified, went to a boat launch on the Amite River near Carew Harris Road to respond to a disturbance around 5 p.m. Saturday, Ard said.

Clausen shot at the deputy after the deputy arrived, Ard said. The deputy returned fire and injured Clausen, Ard said.

Clausen was taken to a hospital where he is still being treated, Ard said.

When he is released, Clausen will be booked into Livingston Parish Prison on one count of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, Ard said.

Clausen’s gun was recovered from the scene, Ard said.

The incident is still under investigation, Ard said.
