Nearly $400,000 in cocaine was found during a Friday morning traffic stop near Hammond, State Police have announced.

A trooper stopped a Chevrolet Sonic on Interstate 12 near Interstate 55 shortly after 9 a.m. for a traffic violation, according to a news release.

During the stop, troopers became suspicious and received consent to search the vehicle, where they found 13 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment. State Police estimate the drugs to be worth over $390,000.

Driver Luis Flores, 42, and passenger Irene Guzman, 37, both of Pasadena, Texas, were arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish jail on counts of felony possession of over 400 grams of cocaine.
