The Circle of Friends Art Studio’s Second Summer Art Show will be on display from Thursday through Sept. 23 at the Arts Council of Livingston Parish Gallery, 113 North Hummell St., Denham Springs.
The show, “America: Playing With a Full Deck,” will feature 52 works of art on a deck of playing cards.
A reception will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Fall art classes
The Arts Council of Livingston Parish will sponsor children’s fall drawing and painting art classes for students in grades two through six.
Instructor Kerry Curtin will teach the classes from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at South Live Oak Elementary School, 8400 Cecil Drive, Denham Springs, in room 602, in the back of the school.
The cost is $45, or $40 per session for ACLP members.
Students should bring No. 2 pencils and a drawing pad no larger than 16 inches by 20 inches, organizers said.
Session One will be in September, Session Two in October and Session Three in November.

Live Oak events
Several events will be held in the coming weeks to benefit Live Oak area schools, organizers said.
A parishwide homecoming style show will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at North Live Oak, 36605 Outback Road, Denham Springs. Tickets are $5.
A block party will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Padain’s Specialty Meats, 8035 Olivia Drive, Denham Springs. The event is free.
The WAFB Pep Rally will be at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 9 at Live Oak High gym, 8444 Cecil Drive, Denham Springs. Admission is free. Those attending are asked to dress in blue and gold.
“Mr. Live Oak” will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at North Live Oak. Tickets are $5.
Walker will host an Orphan Animal Fun Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Punk Smith Park, 12925 Burgess Ave., Walker.
Cats and dogs from the Walker Animal Shelter will be available for adoption at a reduced fee. Families can also enjoy water slides and inflatable jumpers and learn more about pet services and businesses in the community.
Nonprofit agencies and businesses that offer animal-related services or products are invited to set up booths free of charge in the park for the event. To register for a booth, call Laura Rice at (225) 665-8990.
The Smithsonian Institution’s “Journey Stories” project will be on display beginning Sunday at the Denham Springs Old City Hall, 115 Mattie St., Denham Springs.
Along with the national exhibit, local volunteers are assembling a display of area residents’ stories about the paths by which they or their ancestors arrived in Livingston Parish.
