LIVINGSTON — Former “Sons of Guns” star Will Hayden reasserted his innocence Thursday and said he is prepared to go to trial in the two parishes where he is being prosecuted for sex crimes.
Two women have accused him of rape, one in the 1990s and another in August 2014. His daughter and former co-star, Stephanie Hayden Ford, also has alleged that Hayden molested her and discussed the matter on the “Dr. Phil” show.
Hayden was scheduled for a pretrial conference Thursday in Livingston Parish. However, it was continued when his attorney was held up in another court.
During a brief interview as he was being led from jail, Hayden said the state had offered him a plea bargain and he planned to reject it.
Specifics of the deal were not immediately clear Thursday, as Assistant District Attorney David Guidry declined to discuss particulars, and Hayden’s attorney, Dede Ferrara, did not return a call for comment.
The legal team representing Hayden in East Baton Rouge Parish recently withdrew from the case and was replaced by a public defender. Asked why, Hayden replied in a single word: “Poverty.”
He also thanked several family members for their support.
“I love them. … This has not been a lot of fun, but without them, this would be impossible,” the former reality TV show star remarked.
