NATALBANY — An early morning arrest of a suspected vehicle burglar led to the recovery of an estimated $10,000 worth of stolen property, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.

Eric J. Washington, 22, 13255 Velma Road, Amite, was booked on five counts of simple burglary and two outstanding traffic warrants after deputies stopped his gray Ford Expedition about 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a press release.

Washington had been seen taking things out of a vehicle, the release says. He was then seen driving around at a slow rate of speed, the release says.

When deputies intercepted Washington, he admitted to burglarizing at least five vehicles early Tuesday morning and said that the stolen items were still in his vehicle, the release says.

Deputies recovered stolen car audio equipment, cash, musical instruments and electronics in Washington’s SUV, the release says.

Washington’s bail has been set at $126,000, a jail spokesman said.
