DENHAM SPRINGS — A nursing home stabbing left a woman resident recovering from life-threatening injuries and a male resident booked with attempted second-degree murder, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
Ray J. Ducote, 66, a resident of Harvest Manor Nursing Home, 9171 Cockerham Road, Denham Springs, was arrested without incident Sunday afternoon, according to a news release.
Ducote told detectives he intended to kill the victim, the release says.
In addition to the attempted-murder count, Ducote also was booked with aggravated assault, after he allegedly threatened a nursing home employee who tried to intervene, sheriff’s spokesman Perry Rushing said in the release.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Sunday, Rushing said in the release.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to a hospital with life- threatening injuries, Rushing said, but she is expected to recover, Rushing said.
The man and woman “had a history together,” and no other residents were involved, the release says.
Ducote remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on Tuesday in lieu of $75,500 bail, Rushing said.
