A Denham Springs Mexican restaurant accused of copyright infringement has agreed to a settlement deal, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Last month, Papi’s Fajita Factory on South Range Avenue was sued by a number of copyright holders and Broadcast Music Inc., which licenses public performance rights. In a civil complaint, the plaintiffs alleged the restaurant played songs by acts like Jimmy Buffett and Van Morrison without proper licensing.
The copyright holders and Broadcast Music Inc. said in a motion filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Baton Rouge the two sides reached a settlement. The motion states Papi’s has agreed to make unspecified payments to the plaintiffs over the course of the next year.
If the restaurant makes the payments on time, the case will be dismissed.
