ROBERT — State Police are looking for a driver accused of hitting and killing a 58-year-old bicyclist late Saturday on La. 445 about two miles north of U.S. 190, a State Police spokesman said.
Troopers did not find the bicyclist until shortly after dawn Sunday, Trooper Nick Manale said. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Manale said.
Troopers believe the bicyclist was riding north on La. 445 when a maroon-colored sedan, possibly a Saturn, struck the bicyclist from behind, Manale said.
The vehicle fled north on La. 445 and left the bicyclist lying on the east shoulder of the roadway, Manale said.
Troopers are searching for the maroon-colored sedan, which likely has damage to its right front bumper, quarter panel and windshield, Manale said.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the State Police’s Troop L at (985) 893-6250.
