Two people were shot in a Thanksgiving robbery in Hammond, the city announced Monday afternoon.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, a silver Chevrolet Impala pulled up in front of a home on Washington Avenue where a pair of men were standing in the driveway, according to a news release issued by the city.
The passenger got out of the car armed with a handgun equipped with a laser sight. The gunman demanded their valuables, but “as the victims emptied their pockets, the suspect began shooting at them,” the release states.
One man was struck in the leg and shoulder; the other was hit in the leg. Both were hospitalized but have since been released.
The gunman fled in the car, which was last seen heading north on Washington Avenue toward West Coleman Avenue, according to the release. Both the robber and the getaway driver were wearing ski masks.
