ALBANY — Aircraft, canines, a car chase and people jumping into and out of a moving Camaro were part of a Friday morning chase involving a stolen vehicle, according to a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office release.
Deputies were called about 8 a.m. to Pine Hill Drive, where a Chevrolet Camaro — with its keys inside — was reported missing overnight. The car was seen later that day headed southbound on La. 43. The driver, 22-year-old Kevin Rheams, of North Cafe Line Road in Albany, took off when he saw law enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office said.
While driving on North Cafe Line Road, Rheams jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran into nearby woods, crossing into Tangipahoa Parish, the news release says.
A deputy got into the Camaro and put it in park before it hit anything, the Sheriff’s Office wrote.
Canine teams from both parishes and a Livingston Parish helicopter tracked Rheams, leading to his arrest.
He faces counts of auto theft, aggravated flight from an officer and resisting an officer.
