Drowning was the cause of death of a 12-year-old boy whose body was recovered Sunday from the Amite River, Anita Boeke of the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday.

The boy went under water and didn’t resurface while tubing near Watson late Saturday afternoon, friends reported to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The body of Gregory Hopkins of 5324 Karen Drive, Marrero, was recovered Sunday, according to the a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Dive teams from Fire Protection District Four and the Killian Police Department assisted in the search and recovery operation, according to the release.
