One person died and two others were injured in a three-vehicle wreck in Livingston Parish on Saturday afternoon, State Police said Sunday.

Luke Matthews III, 21, was heading north on La. 16 about 4 p.m. Saturday when his 2013 Chevrolet Impala veered across the center line for unknown reasons, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release.

The Impala collided with a southbound 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Aristide Dixon Jr., 38, of Independence.

When they collided, the two vehicles began to spin, causing the Impala to slam into a southbound 2008 Kia Sorento driven by Carmen Arnold, of Denham Springs.

Matthews suffered severe injuries in the wreck and died later at a hospital, Sandifer said. His passenger, Taylor Thomas, 20, of Denham Springs, suffered moderate injuries, as did Dixon.

Everyone involved wore seat belts. Toxicology samples were taken from Matthews and Dixon to see if either was impaired, Sandifer said. Arnold’s breath test registered no sign of alcohol.
