WALKER — Florida Boulevard east of Walker has been reopened, though crews are still working to clean up debris from a Thursday morning wreck involving a dump truck and a log truck, said Walker Police Chief Hunter Grimes.

The road was opened to traffic around 4 p.m. Thursday, Grimes said.

At 9 a.m., a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development dump truck traveling west and a loaded log truck going eastbound collided just west of Sunland Drive, Grimes said.

“It appears that the DOTD truck veered into oncoming traffic and hit the log truck head on,” Grimes said.

Both vehicles sustained “major damage,” Grimes said.

The drivers of both trucks were taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, he said.

The spill spread debris and diesel fuel over the site, which prompted the road closure, Grimes said.
