HAMMOND — St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond was placed on lockdown Monday as law enforcement officers searched for a home invasion suspect near campus, a spokeswoman with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

The school’s principal ordered the lockdown as a precautionary measure after a parent informed school officials that a chase was in progress nearby, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said.

The suspect did not enter campus, however, and was taken into custody Monday, Panepinto said.

Further details were not immediately available.
