GRAND ISLE (AP) — A 47-year-old Denham Springs man has drowned off a Grand Isle beach after being dragged out by a strong current on Sunday.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office tells the Houma Courier that the body of Louis Arturo Polanco Morales was recovered about 7 p.m. on the beach at Grand Isle State Park.
Coroner’s investigator Tommy Evans says witnesses told him Morales, a young girl and another man were fishing on the rocks when the girl fell in. Both men jumped in to rescue the girl. The other man made it out with her, but Morales was dragged off by the current.
