WALKER — Walker schools were put on lockdown Tuesday during a manhunt involving the city police, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and a law enforcement helicopter.
Authorities are still looking for Dennis Shampine, 33, wanted on robbery, battery and failure to register as a sex offender, said Walker Police Capt. John Sharp.
Shampine was spotted walking along Corbin Avenue in Walker about 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Walker Police Department Facebook page. Authorities did find him.
The school system decided to lock down campuses in the area based on the large number of officers participating in the search. Sharp said the lockdowns lasted at least 2 hours.
According to the police department, Shampine was never seen around the schools, and students were not in danger.
Shampine is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches and 170 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call police at (225) 664-3125.
