A Tickfaw man has been arrested on a count of attempted second-degree murder after shooting his son three times, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

About 7 p.m. Thursday, deputies were called to the Deer Lake Trail subdivision on La. 442 north of Albany, where they found Anthony Vicknair Sr., 56. They believe Vicknair fired on his son five times, striking him in the chest, head and hand, according to a news release.

The son had fled by the time law enforcement arrived, though he was able to drive himself to a hospital, where he was still recovering but listed in stable condition as of Friday morning.

Deputies have found the handgun used in the shooting and have booked Vicknair into the Livingston Parish Detention Center, where he remains with no bond offered, according to online records.

Investigators are trying to determine what touched off the shooting, but Sheriff Jason Ard remarked that “we have learned through our investigation that Vicknair Sr. and his son have had a violent past.”
