A Denham Springs woman was killed Wednesday afternoon when her car collided head-on with a pickup, State Police reported in a news release Thursday.

The crash occurred after 3 p.m. on La. 1019 east of La. 1022 in Livingston Parish, according to the news release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Mitchell, 39, Walker, was driving a 2000 Ford pickup east on La. 1019 when he entered a right-hand curve, crossed the centerline, and sideswiped a 1992 Dodge pickup, the news release said.

The Dodge, driven by Ronald Hays, 66, Denham Springs, then ran off the road to the right, went into a ditch, and overturned, the news release said.

Hays, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the wreck. The Ford pickup continued east on the road and collided with a 1999 Lincoln passenger car, driven by Marion Wall, 68, the news release said.

Wall was pronounced dead on the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office, the news release said.

Mitchell sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital by helicopter.

Troopers do not suspect impairment to have played a factor in the crash; however, samples of the drivers’ blood have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis, the news release said.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, troopers said.
