A Walker woman died from injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon on Arnold Road in Livingston Parish, State Police said Tuesday night.

Sylena N. McNeil, 31, was driving westbound in a 1999 Saturn SC at about 3:45 p.m. when her car began to drift off the road, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman, said in a news release.

McNeil, driving along La. 1025, also known as Arnold Road, then overcorrected, veering into the path of an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old Walker boy, Sandifer said.

The Ford pickup struck McNeil’s Saturn on the car’s passenger side. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, which occurred on Arnold just west of La. 447, known as Walker Road North, Sandifer said.

Emergency responders airlifted McNeil to Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge, where she later died. The boy was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries, Sandifer said.

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers. Troopers didn’t immediately know whether McNeil was impaired, and they did not suspect the boy to be impaired, Sandifer said.
