A Hammond motorcyclist was killed when he ran off the road Saturday and was thrown off the bike, police said.

Charlie Carner, 24, was driving on the Interstate 55 East Service Road when he drifted off the road, crossed a grass embankment and struck a guardrail support beam, State Police said in a news release. Carner was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

It is not yet known if impairment was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, Matey said.
