DENHAM SPRINGS — A Livingston Parish school bus carrying 10 students was struck by a car Monday on Lee Ellis Road, but no one was injured, officials said.

Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 3:20 p.m., spokesman Perry Rushing said.

The accident occurred as the school bus attempted to turn onto Lee Ellis from Hemisphere Lane, said Bill Spear, the parish schools superintendent.

A car side-swiped the bus on the bus’ right side, Spear said.

The children on the bus at the time all are enrolled at Southside Junior High School in Denham Springs, Spear said.

All passengers, the bus driver, and the occupants of the other vehicle were examined by medical personnel at the scene, Spear said.

The children were sent home on another bus, he said.

The driver of the bus in the accident will be required to take a drug test, which is a standard procedure with all accidents involving school buses, Spear said.
