HOLDEN —One man died and another was arrested as a result of a wreck on Interstate 12 on Friday morning, State Police said.

Troopers identified the victim as Timothy W. Bower, 38, of Walker.

The accident slowed traffic as eastbound motorists were forced to use a single lane, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. when Clifford J. Morse, of Covington, attempted to move to the left lane when he saw a vehicle halted on the shoulder of the road.

Bower, who was driving west in the left lane, swerved to avoid Morse’s vehicle and ran into the median, where his 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier turned over and ended up on the shoulder of the eastbound traffic lanes, Trooper Jared Sandifer said.

Morse, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-150, did not stop at the scene, but was later detained by Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies and brought back to the wreck site, Sandifer said.

Troopers suspect impairment on the part of Morse was a factor in the wreck. They booked Morse into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on counts of driving while intoxicated, improper lane use, hit-and-run and vehicular homicide, State Police said.
