A Loranger woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and reckless operation after a Saturday evening wreck involving her car, a truck and a train, Hammond police reported Monday.

Officers were called to the train tracks near Thomas Street about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a post on the Hammond Police Department’s Facebook page.

They said Tammy Lee Bales, 33, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla, turned off Thomas Street and onto the tracks, where her car got stuck.

A caller at the scene dialed 911, yelling that a southbound train was bearing down on the car. Dispatchers weren’t able to reach the conductor in time, and the train plowed into the Corolla, knocking it into a parked truck, police said.

Bales escaped from the car before the train hit it, Lt. Vince Giannobile said, and no one was injured.
