State Police are gearing up for a flood of traffic headed to the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival this weekend, and troopers are calling in backup from elsewhere in Louisiana and the LSP Air Support Unit to manage the crowds.

The festival, the state’s second largest, is expected to lure 300,000 attendees, State Police wrote in their 11-page operational plan for the event.

Troopers will be posted at exits 23 and 25 on Interstate 55 and may close the off-ramps if they become congested, the operational plan states.

Troopers have recommended a number of alternate routes for revelers to reach the Strawberry Festival. Drivers from Baton Rouge can get off Interstate 12 at exit 35, drive south to La. 22 and head east into Ponchatoula.
