DENHAM SPRINGS — A sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a man who allegedly opened fire on him during a boat launch disturbance, Livingston Parish Chief Deputy Jason Ard reported Saturday.
The deputy, whose name was not released, responded to a disturbance around 5 p.m. at an Amite River boat launch off Carew Harris Road about four miles south of Denham Springs, Ard said in a news release.
The man began shooting at the deputy after the deputy arrived, Ard said.
The deputy returned fire and hit the man, Ard said.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment, Ard said. His gun was recovered at the scene, Ard said.
State Police were helping investigate the incident, Ard said.
