A 27-year-old from Denham Springs told deputies he was “rained out” from work and “just playing around” when he placed two prank 911 calls reporting phony armed robberies, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Dispatchers received the calls on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both times, they were told masked men were entering a business, once on La. 16 in Watson and once on Magnolia Beach Road in Denham Springs, a release states. Both times authorities raced to the scene but found no sign of a robbery.

The reports came from the same cellphone, and investigators traced them back to Brandon Kirkland, who was arrested Wednesday on two counts of terrorizing. Deputies said he admitted to placing both calls.

“Prank calls can be a dangerous game. A real victim could need all of our resources in the event of a real emergency,” Sheriff Jason Ard said. “It wastes time; it wastes resources. You can and will go to jail.”
