KENTWOOD — A search continued Wednesday for a fugitive sought on warrants for rape, kidnapping and shooting at police officers, according to a press release from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
There have been several reported sightings of Kaunda Lopaz Magee in both Tangipahoa and Washington parishes, spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said in the release.
Authorities were focusing their search in the Kentwood area, Panepinto said.
Several residences near the search area were burglarized Tuesday, Panepinto said.
Several agencies, including Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Slidell Police, U.S. Marshal’s Service and U.S. Customs were assisting in the search, Panepinto said.
Washington Parish deputies and a state trooper chased Magee earlier this month after a report of a home invasion and sexual assault, Trooper Nick Manale of the Louisiana State Police said Tuesday.
Shots were fired at officers during that chase, Manale said.
Another chase began in Tangipahoa Parish Thursday when Magee fled from Washington Parish sheriff’s deputies who stopped his car. He ran into a wooded area off La. 38 near Kentwood, authorities said.
Anyone knowing the Magee’s whereabouts is asked to call Tangipahoa Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.
