A woman found dead in a burning house on Oct. 11 has been identified as 39-year-old Marsha Allen, St. Helena Parish Coroner Jimmie Varnado said Monday.

The Sheriff’s Office suspects foul play, Chief of Detectives Joe Chaney said. On Monday, he declined to discuss specifics of the case, saying it was still under investigation by his office and the fire marshal.

Varnado said the woman’s body has been sent to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Until it is completed, he could not speak on Allen’s cause or manner of death.

Firefighters were called on Oct. 11 to a burning home on La. 1043 where they found the body. On Monday, Chaney said Allen was believed to have lived at the home where the fire was reported, but it was unclear who else may have resided there with her.
