Sen. Troy Brown, D-Geismar, celebrated student excellence May 3-4 by hosting two events to commemorate St. James and Donaldsonville high schools making the semifinals in the 2014 LHSAA-State Farm Basketball Top 28 boys state tournament.

The St. James High School boys basketball team played in the state semifinals on Feb. 28 after a second-place district finish.

Donaldsonville High School played in the semifinals on March 13

Brown’s celebrations included boiled crawfish, jambalaya, drinks and music.

The St. James celebration was at the St. James Parish Reception Hall, and the Donaldsonville party took place at the Frank Sotile Pavilion in Donaldsonville. St. James and Donaldsonville high school students were invited.

Brown presented both teams and staff members framed Senate commendations and interim resolutions to commemorate their performances during the season.

“I commend and congratulate our kids for such a monumental accomplishment this year,” he said in a news release. “This is what they play to achieve, and they definitely did great this year.”
