Prairieville Primary fourth-graders built bridges out of drinking straws for an Enrichment Day project March 3, according to a release from the school.

Students studied diagrams of different bridge types, including arch, beam, suspension, cable-stay and truss bridges, and watched a video demonstrating the importance of a strong foundation.

Working in groups of four, the students were given 50 straws, tape, scissors, 10 pieces of yarn and a plastic cup with 100 pennies in it. They were told to work together to build a bridge made out of these straws strong enough to hold up the cup of pennies.

Many of the groups were successful, the release stated.
