Raven Finley is leading the G.W. Carver Beta Club officers this school year as president, club reporter Ceionna Mitchell said in a news release.

Other officers at the Gonzales school are Kiyah Ursin, vice president; Ali Burt, secretary; Derica Levy, treasurer; and Mitchell, reporter.

Finley, 11, said she was inspired by President Barack Obama to run for office.

“I hope one day I can become the first female president,” Finley said. “I’ve been going to this school since I was in pre-K, so it is an honor to be the president of the Beta Club.”

Mitchell said she wanted to be club reporter because she loves to talk, read books and “educate people on the latest news,” she said.

The club includes fourth-grade members Hannah Bell, Shaun Bennett, Tiffany Celaya, Serenity Helaire, Kierra Lynn Irvin, Tanner Irvin, Jayde Jackson, Randall Jouette, Karim Mazlum, Taylor Morgan, Sarah Villar and Caleb Williams.

Fifth-grade members include Damian Anderson, Devyn Anderson, Logan Arceneaux, TyNajiah Banks, Janiya Bily, Ali Burt, Raven Delatte, Angel Dowdy, Raven Finley, Lai Irvin, Lyric Jackson, Ashley Jones, Cullen Jones, Destiny Leonard, Derica Levy, Ceionna Mitchell, Karime Ortiz, Kiyah Ursin, D’Erilyn Williams, Eijah Williams, Jasmyn Wilson, Kaleijah Ross and Mckenzie Wilson.

The club will host a Mardi Gras dance Friday to raise money for a trip, the release said.

Beta Club sponsor Debra Watts started the school’s Beta Club 16 years ago, the release said.
