Lamar-Dixon hosts spring youth rodeo
Young cowboys and cowgirls will rope and ride this weekend during the annual Louisiana High School Rodeo Association’s Spring Rodeo at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.
Students from around the state will compete in barrel racing, team roping, pole bending, calf roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, steer wrestling, ribbon roping and bull riding. Each member is vying for points to qualify for state and national finals.
The rodeo starts at 7 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday with performances at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and ending at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $6, and children under 5 are admitted free.
Girl Scout cookies findable by GPS
Girl Scout cookies have arrived and Girl Scout volunteers have their vehicles loaded with residents’ favorite flavors.
Kim Bourgeois, publicity chairwoman for the Prairieville Service Unit 131, said Girl Scouts will be selling cookies at area stores from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekend through March 17.

Arts group plans markets, exhibition
The River Region Art Association has scheduled several programs and classes in Ascension Parish, an association spokeswoman said.
The Art Gumbo Market is set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 16 at Houmas House Plantation and Gardens, 40136 La. 942, Darrow.
The market includes Louisiana arts and crafts from local artisans and complimentary food tastings from Latil’s Restaurant.
A Youth Art Exhibition is set March 18 to March 30 at the River Region Art Center, 1835 N. Magnolia St., Gonzales.
A reception and awards program will be held at 3:30 p.m. March 30.
Youths ages 6 to 17 can enter paintings, drawings, photography and three-dimensional work. The entry fee is $2 per entry, with a limit of two entries per category per student.
Youth Creativity Day and Art Market will be from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 30 at the River Region Art Center.
The day will feature hands-on activities for youths, and Louisiana arts and crafts from local artisans.
Paddle Lafourche event set for April
Registration is under way for Paddle Bayou Lafourche, set for April 4 through April 7.
The event starts in Donaldsonville and continues down Bayou Lafourche to Lockport.
March 21 is the deadline to register for the event.
