River Parishes Community College faculty member Tamika Maracalin has been named one of the top 100 nurses in Louisiana, a news release said.
She was recognized at a celebration in Kenner on Oct. 14.
Maracalin, a registered nurse, was placed among the best by the Top 100 Nurses Foundation, which honors nurses in Louisiana, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma.
She was chosen for her “concern for humanity, her contributions to the profession of nursing and the mentoring of others,” the release said.
“Nursing is truly a gift that is given by God,” Maracalin said. “There is nothing else I can see myself doing. My job at RPCC is to teach my students everything I know as a nurse and hope they will be an even better nurse than I am.”
Maracalin is a graduate of Delgado Charity School of Nursing and Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing. She joined the faculty of RPCC in 2010 as a nursing instructor and is now the practical nursing program coordinator.
She is married to Jonathon Westbrook and has a daughter, Gabriella.
