Donaldsonville teachers get $1,500 in grants _lowres

Donaldsonville Primary School kindergarten teachers Vanessa Fennell and Sara Ward were awarded Ascension Fund grants totaling $1,500 on Aug. 6.

Fennell received $500 from the Honeywell Inc. Endowment for “What’s That Word?” The funds will provide sight word readers and interactive sight word learning games for students.

Ward was awarded $1,000 from the CF Industries Endowment for “Windows to World.” The funds will be used to purchase laptops and a reading program for the students in her classroom.

The Ascension Fund, a nonprofit established in 1991 by the Gonzales Rotary Club, allows private sector leaders to invest directly in teachers and schools through grants for innovative ideas and programs in Ascension Parish public schools. For information, visit www. ascensionfund.com.
