Equal parts intimate and formal, the swearing-in ceremonies of new Judges Jason M. Verdigets and Tess Percy Stromberg on Dec. 30 in Gonzales brought new names to the 23rd Judicial District bench who have been familiar faces around the courthouse.
Stromberg and Verdigets are replacing Judges Guy Holdridge and Ralph Tureau, respectively.
Holdridge and Tureau were fixtures in the judicial district who decided not to seek re-election, creating an uncommon opening on the five-member judiciary for Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes.
Tureau is retiring while Holdridge is headed to the Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal.
Following Verdigets’ and Stromberg’s strong electoral wins Nov. 4, the ceremony last month was a day for family, friends and others to mark a changing of the guard.
