Tickets are on sale for Ascension Community Theatre’s upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

The play is set for July 10-13, July 17-20 and July 24-17.

Heidi Frederic and Mark Lambert are directing the production, which will be staged at the theater, 831 Felicity St., Gonzales.

Latin Jazz harpist at library

New Orleans Latin Jazz harpist and composer Patrice Fisher, the Latin Jazz Group Arpa and special guests Roberto Moreira and Javier Gutierrez will perform at 6 p.m. June 26 at the Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown.

Fisher, a graduate of Tulane University and Wolf Trap Academy for the Performing Arts, lives in New Orleans and has been performing and recording her own compositions since 1980, a news release said.

The performance is produced by Musicians for Music and supported by grants from the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation; the National Endowment for the Arts; the Louisiana State Arts Council and the Louisiana Division of the Arts; Office of Cultural Development; and the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.

Sisterhood events slated

Community Sisterhood is holding two social events this summer.

A painting event is set for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Painting with a Twist, 711 Jefferson Highway, Suite 3A, Baton Rouge.

Fire station ribbon cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned June 25 for the Prairieville Fire Department’s new Duplessis Road station.

The event is set for 10 a.m. at 38492 Duplessis Road.

Recycle Road Show planned

Ascension Parish residents can recycle a variety of items June 28 at the next Recycle Road Show.

A recycling vehicle will be stationed in the Prairieville Wal-Mart store’s parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will replace the July Road Show that was set for July 5, parish officials said.

The types of material being accepted at the Recycling Road Show include newspapers and magazines; milk and juice cartons; cardboard; aluminum; tin or bimetal cans and metal lids; and No. 1 through No. 7 plastic containers.
