Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center offers lung cancer screenings at 1104 W. La. 30 in Gonzales through its Lung Cancer Screening Clinic.
The noninvasive CT scans are for Ascension Parish residents at the highest risk of developing lung cancer.
High-risk individuals include:
Ages 55 to 74 with a smoking history of 30 pack years or more and fewer than 15 years of smoking cessation.
Ages 50 or older with a smoking history of 20 pack years or more and one additional risk factor other than secondhand smoke: radon exposure; occupation exposure (carcinogens, asbestos); cancer history; family history of lung cancer; or disease history (COPD or pulmonary fibrosis).
“The goal in providing a location in the Gonzales area for the low-dose CT scan is to help save more lives,” said Dr. Brad Vincent, interventional pulmonologist and chairman of the Cancer Center’s Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Care Team.
“Our hope is that by making screenings more convenient, more people will take advantage of such an easy way to detect cancer early. Early detection can make a tremendous difference in treatment outcomes.”
Cost is $99. Call (225) 215-0200 for information or visit mbpolol.org/lung for a free risk assessment.
